Leading Performers UNDER 13 CRICKET REPORT FOR 13 MAY 2012 A better day with only two clubs being unable to raise a team this week but disappointingly Almondbury Wes B have had to pull out of the League due to shortage of players, which just leaves 13 clubs in Area B and one club without a game each week. Bowlers had a good day with Matt Stansfield of Broad Oak taking four wickets and a number of others taking three wickets. Remarkably Sam Baxter, Daniel McGowan and Harrison Booth all had 3 wickets for Hall Bower in dismissing Cumberworth for 98 but the Bower batsmen could not reach this total with Lewis Palk doing the damage with 3 wickets for 9 runs for Cumberworth. Opening bowler Jason Kilner did the hat-trick for Kirkburton in his opening over, clean bowling two and having the third player stumped by George Whittaker, in their win over Denby Dale, who were also struggling for a full team due to football and summer rugby! A very close game occurred at Elland where the home team failed by one run to reach the Upperthong A total of 85. Meltham just got the better of Clayton West thanks to some rapid middle order scoring of 47 from 4 overs after they had only reached the half way mark on 27 in 10 overs with Callum Greenwood doing the business and retiring on 27. In the preliminary round of the Cup there were wins for Lascelles Hall, Upperthong A, Kirkburton, Hall Bower, Marsden and the outstanding tie between Mirfield and Elland is still to be played due to weather problems. It is the first round proper of the Cup this coming Sunday and then only 13 days to complete the next round.
